Summary of Action
EMPOWER! is a capacity-building project designed to strengthen civil society’s engagement in the Rhône-Alpes region by addressing gender inequalities and empowering citizens as agents of change. It focuses on enhancing local initiatives, fostering skill development, and sustaining positive dynamics while encouraging innovative practices. The project targets diverse territories, including urban centers, rural areas, and deprived areas, ensuring an inclusive approach.
EMPOWER! aims to create open dialogue spaces for 4,000 residents, including 2,400 youth (50% of girls), 1,100 women, and gender minorities, to share experiences and develop critical knowledge through outreach, local events, and peer-to-peer learning. By highlighting the impact of gender-based violence and systemic inequalities across various spheres (personal, professional, societal), in local and global contexts, the project empowers participants with a comprehensive understanding.
Working with local civil society networks through a community-based approach, the project amplifies marginalized voices, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to engage meaningfully. EMPOWER! guides participants through a transformative civic journey, enabling them to understand systemic inequalities, develop critical perspectives, and take action. Participants develop new skills and launch micro-projects that address local gender issues, embedding gender equality into the community fabric.
It highlights the voices and struggles of women outside the European context, emphasizing the interconnectedness of global gender inequalities through an intersectional lens, addressing issues like racism. Thus, EMPOWER! equips participants with the tools to combat misinformation and foster inclusive dialogue. Ultimately, it enhances participants’ capacity for action, turning lived experiences into expertise, and promoting sustainable, community-driven solutions for gender equality.
