Les CIGALES: A Pathway to Engagement in the Fight for Fairer Finance That Serves People

General information

Project name: Les CIGALES, parcours d’engagement dans la lutte pour une finance plus juste et au service des êtres humains
Country: France
Timeline: From 2 November 2025 to 1 April 2027
Lead Organisation: Association Régionale des CIGALES Auvergne Rhône Alpes

Summary of Action

“Les CIGALES, a Journey of Commitment for a Fairer and Human-Centered Finance” addresses major global challenges linked to the international financial system—its role in increasing inequalities, driving climate change, and reinforcing gender injustice. While members of the solidarity finance movement are active locally, they often remain distant from the systemic and global dimensions of finance.

The project focuses on the 300 members of CIGALES clubs in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region—citizen investors who collectively support projects with strong social and environmental value. These clubs are constantly renewed, with 4 to 5 new ones created annually, bringing in 60 to 80 new members each year.

In 2025, the Regional Association of CIGALES will launch a new “CIGALIER PATHWAY,” a structured program to support and train its members. This project is a unique opportunity to integrate a dedicated module on the global impacts of finance within that new pathway, connecting local action with global awareness and justice.

Planned activities include webinars, in-person workshops (such as the “Finance Fresk”), expert interventions on gender and North/South inequalities, and large public events. These will be developed in collaboration with key partners like Oikocredit and CCFD-Terre Solidaire.

Expected outcomes include a replicable annual training program on global finance, increased awareness among new members, and at least 50 members engaged in raising awareness or advocacy actions by the end of 2026. This initiative bridges the gap between local solidarity finance and global challenges, empowering citizens to reclaim finance for the common good.
