Summary of Action

The project “Trees in Our Plates and International Solidarity” will tackle the issue of deforestation: loss of biodiversity, impacts on human lives and communities, and degradation of air quality. It focuses on good practices developed in Western African countries to change the situation, such as agroforestry, and locally in our region, such as planting hedges.

Through a diversity of activities and opportunities for interaction with Western Africans and local actors of the food chains, three types of groups will be involved in taking action and contributing to strengthening the place of trees in our societies:

  • 8 groups of high school students from different schools;
  • A group gathering all their teachers;
  • An informal group of young adults.

They will contribute to creating educational tools and organizing an event to encourage others to follow their commitments. Therefore, 300 high school students will become at least followers, and others will move from being followers to participants, multiplying the impact.

Activities:

  • To go deeper into the subject: Film screenings and debates, investigations on Western realities with local actors through different Southern partners in West Africa and South America;
  • Inquiries on local mobilizations around trees: on the internet, through field visits, and meetings with experts;
  • Sensorial and practical activities: Educational games; workshops such as tasting or cooking food from trees; planting trees;
  • Commitments: Promotion of zero-deforestation food in school restaurants; participation in building educational tools; artistic creation; preparation of an event.
