Changemakers for Gender Equality
General information
Project name: Changemakers voor Gendergelijkheid
Country: Belgium
Timeline: From 1 February 2026 to 1 February 2027
Lead Organisation: Humanitarian Welfare Association
Summary of Action
“Changemakers for Gender Equality” addresses the everyday realities of gender inequality faced by young people in Belgium. These challenges take different forms, from discrimination and exclusion to restrictive social norms that limit expression and opportunity.
The project brings together ten young people aged 15 to 30 from diverse backgrounds, including both migrant and non-migrant communities. Through an intensive training programme, participants deepen their understanding of gender equality and human rights while strengthening leadership, communication, and storytelling skills.
Once trained, these young changemakers take action within their own communities. They organise workshops, facilitate discussions, and engage directly with peers, creating safe spaces to challenge stereotypes and reflect on gender norms.
By reaching more than 200 people, the project stimulates broader conversations in families, schools, and youth organisations. It encourages open dialogue, promotes mutual understanding, and supports more inclusive attitudes.
The initiative also focuses on sustainability by reflecting on lessons learned and translating them into practical tools for future participants. In doing so, it creates a ripple effect, empowering more young people to continue advocating for equality, respect, and active citizenship.
