General information
Project name: Echo
Country: Belgium
Timeline: From 1 January 2026 to 30 June 2026
Lead Organisation: Mondiale Werken Regio Lier vzw
Summary of Action
“Echo” supports young refugees in Belgium as they navigate the challenges of starting a new life, including language barriers, limited social networks, and emotional stress. At the same time, it creates meaningful connections between migrant and non-migrant youth.
The project brings together settled young people with a migration background and engages them in creative workshops such as beatboxing, podcasting, animation, music therapy, and painting. Through these activities, participants reflect on their personal journeys and transform their experiences into powerful stories.
With the support of professional facilitators, these stories are developed into a mini-documentary, recorded in participants’ own languages and made accessible through subtitles. This film becomes a welcoming and supportive tool for newly arrived young refugees in OKAN classes and reception centres.
In addition, screenings and guided discussions are organised in schools and youth organisations. These moments create space for dialogue, helping non-migrant youth better understand the realities of migration and challenge existing stereotypes.
By combining creativity, storytelling, and dialogue, “Echo” empowers young people to share their voices, fosters empathy across communities, and strengthens inclusive citizenship. It builds connections that support both personal resilience and collective understanding.
