General information
Project name: Magrafica: Carving Peace
Country: Belgium
Timeline: From 1 September 2026 to 16 December 2027
Lead Organisation: Masereelfonds
Summary of Action
Magrafica: Carving Peace is a participatory arts project of Masereelfonds that links art to sustainable peace, conflict, and resistance, with a strong focus on the voices and experiences of people from the Global South. The project creates artistic and civic spaces where those most affected by global challenges are not only represented but actively engaged as actors, storytellers, and co-creators.
In Belgium, Magrafica collaborates with art academies, art schools, artlabs, and civil society organisations, enabling young people and citizens to express their visions on (sustainable) peace and conflict through graphic art, inspired by the work and heritage of Belgian artist Frans Masereel. An open call provides young, emerging artists with a platform to present their work in a traveling exhibition, digital showcase, and catalog. Through partnerships with organizations such as Globe Aroma, Compagnie Cordial, and Cinemaximiliaan, newcomers, refugees, and artists with migration backgrounds actively shape the project as makers and participants.
On an international level, Magrafica participates in the Global Artivism Festival 2026, connecting with artists, activists, and cultural actors from across continents, with strong representation from the Global South. This festival fosters exchange, co-creation, and the circulation of alternative narratives of peace, resistance, and resilience.
