Summary of Action
“Plastiki Safari – Journey of Change” addresses the growing plastic waste problem in and around Moshi, Tanzania through an innovative and practical solution. The project combines environmental action with education and economic opportunity.
At the core of the initiative is a mobile recycling bus—a converted vehicle that travels through communities to collect plastic waste. The bus is equipped to shred and process plastic on-site, transforming waste into reusable materials and new products.
The project places strong emphasis on education by raising awareness about plastic pollution and sustainable practices among local communities. Through direct engagement, it helps people understand the environmental impact of waste and encourages more responsible behaviour.
In addition, the project creates employment opportunities by involving local people in the collection, processing, and reuse of plastic materials. This contributes to income generation and strengthens local capacity to address environmental challenges.
By linking environmental sustainability with social impact, “Plastiki Safari” promotes a circular approach to waste management while fostering community engagement and long-term change. It demonstrates how local innovation can contribute to global solutions.
