Summary of Action

The ‘SDG Learning Lab: LEEF Global, Think Djapo’ project addresses pressing global challenges such as climate change, gender inequality, and pollution by empowering Belgian and Liberian youth and teachers to collaborate on solutions. The initiative engages young people in actively addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through education and action. Participants form action groups, guided by trained teachers, to tackle a self-chosen SDG challenge. They analyse the problem using systems thinking, explore its root causes and impacts, and design concrete solutions for their schools or communities. These actions are shared during events with peers, educators, policymakers, and development professionals, fostering a sense of achievement and inspiration.

The collaboration with Liberian youth adds depth, as both groups learn how different contexts lead to diverse approaches while pursuing a shared vision of sustainability and solidarity. Teachers play a vital role in this process, receiving training to integrate SDG themes and innovative methodologies like systems thinking and creative thinking into their teaching. This enhances their ability to mentor students and broadens their own perspectives through exchanges with Liberian colleagues.

The project aims to transform young participants from passive observers into active global citizens, building their confidence and leadership skills. It also strengthens their critical thinking and ability to address complex challenges. The outcomes are shared widely, raising awareness and inspiring broader societal engagement. Together, these efforts contribute to a more sustainable, equitable, and united world, demonstrating the powerful impact of youth and educators working in solidarity.
