Stories of Hope
General information
Project name: Stories of Hope
Country: Belgium / Bangladesh
Timeline: From 1 February 2026 to 1 April 2026
Lead Organisation: VZW Education International Belgium
Summary of Action
“Stories of Hope” connects young people in Belgium and Bangladesh through storytelling, reflection, and shared learning. The project focuses on global challenges such as poverty and social exclusion, while highlighting resilience and personal strength.
In Bangladesh, young people from the Jagat Jyoti Children Welfare Home create and film their own stories. Many of them come from ethnic minority backgrounds and share personal experiences about their dreams, challenges, and sources of hope. These stories are brought together in a short documentary that emphasizes their agency and avoids stereotypical narratives.
In Belgium, this documentary becomes the starting point for interactive educational activities. A young Bangladeshi speaker shares his personal journey, followed by workshops where participants reflect on themes such as resilience, inequality, and global interconnection.
The project engages around 600 young people. Students in higher education co-create practical tools to support vulnerable youth, while secondary school students participate in a series of workshops designed to foster empathy, critical thinking, and active engagement.
The final result is a lasting educational package, including the documentary, discussion formats, and practical tools that can continue to be used by schools and youth organisations. By amplifying voices from the Global South and encouraging reflection among European youth, the project contributes to a more inclusive and connected society.
