Take Back The City

General information

Project name: Take Back The City
Country: Belgium
Timeline: From 1 March 2025 to 31 May 2025
Lead Organisation: Globelink vzw

Summary of Action

Take Back The City challenges young people to take a deep dive into the diversity and visible global social themes in their city (Brussels and Ostend, respectively). Their goal is to co-create an original and challenging urban activity for both young people and adults. Through this activity, young people show us where the opportunities and challenges lie in living together in a diverse city.

Both groups follow a parallel process under the guidance of Globelink. We meet physically six times in each city and connect the young participants with peers outside our borders, local organisations, and policymakers. The project culminates in a grand finale: the two groups present their game to young people, fellow city dwellers, and local policymakers during a public event.

We immerse groups of young people from Ostend and Brussels in our co-creative approach. These young people take the driver’s seat in the project. We start from their strengths, talents, and diversity. Their origins, interests, opinions, and ways of thinking fuel the process. Both youth groups will develop an urban activity from their unique perspective. This activity focuses on the global themes they identify and experience in their local context and living environment. For example, we explore answers to questions such as: ‘What opportunities does migration bring to the city?’, ‘How does climate change affect the city?’, ‘How can young people claim public space?’, and ‘Who feels safe in the city?’.
