Summary of Action

In Europe and in Catalonia, hate speech and racist narratives are a growing reality, intensified by crisis contexts and the spread of manipulated information through social networks, as well as political and media discourse. These dynamics particularly affect migrant and racialized people, as well as women and gender dissidents, who often suffer institutional and social discrimination and see their fundamental rights violated.

In response to this reality, the project Comedy with an Accent (Comèdia amb accent): Humor as a Tool for Global Justice proposes an innovative approach, using audiovisual media, humor, and artivism as tools to question stereotypes, dismantle prejudices, and generate new collective imaginaries based on equality, coexistence, and global justice. The project aims to contribute to building a critical, inclusive citizenry committed to defending human rights and a culture of peace.

The project is inspired by the documentary Comèdia amb accent, directed by Alba Calani (Senyor Moon) and produced by Reds and InteRed, which follows the daily lives and reflections of a group of comedians who, through humor and social media, narrate and challenge experiences of discrimination, racism, and resistance that they face as migrant and racialized people.

With thousands of followers and a strong capacity for influence, we consider these individuals opinion leaders and activists who transform the collective imagination through humor and digital communication. Some of the protagonists of the documentary are Lihem, Enlatina2, and Wizz Problema, and the project also features the participation of renowned antiracist activist, researcher, and communicator Chaimaa Boukharsa, one of the most prominent voices of the antiracist movement in Spain.

Based on the documentary, a series of educational and community activities will be developed:

  • Participatory workshops in formal and non-formal education centers;
  • Decolonial dialogues with activists;
  • Artivism actions;
  • Digital campaigns to bring these narratives closer to diverse audiences, especially young people (with an emphasis on girls and gender dissidents), migrants, and sectors of Catalan society that are less involved but hold high transformative potential.

The project is driven by Reds and InteRed, organizations with a long track record in transformative education, cooperation, and human rights, as well as a strong community network in Catalonia and active ties with the Global South. This alliance allows for the development of a proposal with significant territorial impact and a global perspective.

Comèdia amb accent advocates for an informed and co-responsible global citizenship. At the local level, it promotes educational processes that enable the shift from passive spectatorship to active engagement within the participation pyramid. At the European level, the dissemination of the documentary and artistic actions help to raise awareness among broader audiences and foster transnational solidarity against structural racism and global inequalities.
