General information

Project name: Les promeses contaminades de la transició energètica: Recerca i sensibilització sobre les vulneracions de drets humans a l’origen de la nova energia verda global
Country: Catalonia (SP)
Timeline: From 1 May 2025 to 31 July 2026
Lead Organisation: Associació SETEM Catalunya

Summary of Action

This project aims to strengthen and mobilize critical citizenship, especially among youth, regarding the socio-environmental impacts of the green transition promoted by Global North countries on the Global South—in this case, Senegal and Guinea Conakry. Guinea Conakry possesses bauxite, a key resource for producing the aluminum used in electric cars, while Senegal is a major source of gold, another essential material in electric car production. Despite their strategic importance in shaping today’s world and the future, these countries remain among the poorest globally.

Through on-the-ground journalistic research, this project seeks to explore whether the green transition is perpetuating a colonial model, what local initiatives are addressing these issues, and how a fair and sustainable transition should look. This research will serve as the foundation for a series of outreach, educational, and mobilization activities conducted in Catalonia, in collaboration with various organizations and activist movements.

The project will implement a comprehensive communications and outreach plan, sharing the research findings through media, social networks, and other platforms to engage a young audience. Additionally, it includes diverse educational activities designed to enhance participants’ awareness, commitment, and action toward global justice.

Youth groups involved will include secondary school students, scout leaders, university students, and young activists, ensuring a wide-reaching and impactful engagement in fostering a just and sustainable future.
