Summary of Action
The main goal of this project is to increase the critical understanding and involvement of citizens regarding the effects of contemporary colonialism and environmental crisis on forced displacements, focusing on the role of the Spanish agro-industrial fishing industry in Western Sahara and Guatemala.
Three results are expected to be achieved at the end of the project:
- To have made the causes and consequences of forced displacement and the complicity of Spanish companies in the oppression, violence, and occupation of those territories visible;
- To have encouraged citizens’ critical understanding and commitment to global justice, environmental sustainability, and forced displacement;
- To have facilitated the connection of both territories in order to share local problems that can be transformed into global ones.
The actions that will be carried out will be distributed in the following activities:
- Coordination with local counterparts in the territories;
- Two field trips for journalistic research on the causes of forced displacement for environmental reasons;
- Creation of a docu-series about impacts of Spanish extractive companies on forced displacement;
- Creation of a documentary;
- Creation of a microsite with all the audiovisual material resulting from the project;
- Creation of pedagogical materials designed for the development of activities in educational centers;
- Publication of a report;
- Realization of workshops in schools;
- A photographic exhibition;
- An awareness campaign;
- Connection sessions between territories;
- Distribution of the audiovisual products in both countries to expand the reach in their own territories.
