General information
Project name: Connecting Children in Denmark and Rwanda
Country: Denmark
Timeline: From 1 March 2026 to 31 January 2027
Lead Organisation: Kolektiva
Summary of Action
“Connecting Children in Denmark and Rwanda” introduces middle school students in Denmark to global poverty issues through direct learning and engagement with real-life perspectives from Rwanda. The project is developed in collaboration with Root Foundation, ensuring that the voices and experiences of children in Rwanda are meaningfully included.
At the core of the project is the development of educational materials that help students understand the daily realities and challenges faced by children living in poverty. These materials provide a foundation for critical reflection and learning in the classroom.
Students are then encouraged to take an active role by communicating what they have learned to a wider audience. Through activities at a large Christmas market, they share stories and insights about global poverty with visitors, translating their knowledge into accessible and engaging formats.
This process of communicating to others deepens students’ understanding and strengthens their ability to reflect on global inequalities. At the same time, the project reaches a broader audience, raising awareness among members of the public who engage with the students’ presentations.
By combining education, participation, and public engagement, the project empowers young people to better understand global challenges and to act as communicators and ambassadors for greater awareness and solidarity.
