Cultivate the connection

General information

Project name: Dyrk forbindelsen
Country: Denmark
Timeline: From 1 March 2026 to 30 April 2027
Lead Organisation: Mellemamerika Komiteen (MAK)

Summary of Action

“Dyrk forbindelsen” connects local gardening practices in Denmark with global food systems and agricultural realities in Guatemala. The project invites allotment owners to explore how their own cultivation is linked to broader global challenges such as inequality, sustainability, and food sovereignty.

The project is grounded in field research carried out by MAK volunteers in Guatemala, in collaboration with the organisation IMAP. Through this work, they collect stories, audio material, and knowledge about permaculture, land access, and the conditions faced by indigenous communities and small-scale farmers.

This material is transformed into a Danish-language podcast series and interactive workshops. By connecting global perspectives directly to participants’ own gardens, the project makes complex issues tangible and relevant to everyday life.

Participants engage in hands-on learning about permaculture and sustainable cultivation while reflecting on global inequalities in access to land and resources. This approach encourages both critical understanding and practical action within their own local context.

Beyond individual learning, the project fosters community building and the creation of new networks among participants. The developed materials and formats are designed to continue beyond the project period, ensuring lasting impact and ongoing engagement with global sustainability issues.
