From Recycling to Global Understanding – Volunteer Learning and Engagement About Africa
General information
Project name: Fra Genbrug til Global Forståelse – Frivillig læring og Engagement om Afrika
Country: Denmark
Timeline: From 2 February 2026 to 31 December 2026
Lead Organisation: Mission Afrika
Summary of Action
The project strengthens the knowledge, motivation, and commitment of recycling volunteers in the international work that Mission Africa supports in Africa. Volunteers in the recycling shops have very different—and often limited—knowledge about the projects.
In the project, we develop learning materials, visual communication products, and conduct workshops that provide a deeper critical understanding of global development challenges, sustainability, and social justice. A group of volunteers and 1–2 paid employees travel to Africa to meet the partners and document the work. The experiences are translated into materials and stories that are shared widely.
The project engages 300–500 direct volunteers—and a total of 1,400 volunteers indirectly—and then reaches thousands of Danes through the shops. The goal is to permanently increase engagement and strengthen connections between Denmark and the projects in Africa.
