Global Goals Workshop at Secondary Schools

General information

Project name: Verdensmålsworkshop på efterskoler
Country: Denmark
Timeline: From 15 February 2026 to 1 April 2027
Lead Organisation: Den Danske Helsinki-Komité for Menneskerettigheder

Summary of Action

This project engages Danish secondary school students in discussions on democracy, identity, and the future of Europe by connecting local learning to global political developments. Using the Balkans as a case study, it explores how historical conflicts and shifting geopolitical alliances influence today’s world.

Two journalists collect documentary material in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, interviewing researchers, young people, activists, and also individuals who challenge or deny established narratives of war crimes. These diverse perspectives provide students with a nuanced understanding of how history, politics, and identity are contested.

The collected material is transformed into an interactive workshop featuring authentic stories, dilemma-based exercises, and student-led productions. Through these activities, students are encouraged to reflect critically, question assumptions, and engage in dialogue about complex global issues.

The workshop will be piloted at five secondary schools and later disseminated more widely through the Secondary School Association, ensuring broader reach and long-term use of the materials.

By connecting global developments—such as the growing influence of alliances involving countries like Russia and China—to local learning contexts, the project strengthens students’ critical thinking and civic engagement. It supports young people in developing the confidence to take informed positions and participate actively in democratic societies.
