Lead Organisation: Alternativ Fashion Week CPH
Summary of Action
Alternative Fashion Week Copenhagen (AFW CPH) is a volunteer-run platform that engages young people in sustainable fashion through festivals and workshops.
The project provides information about the connection between fashion consumption, global value chains, and their social and environmental consequences. The target group is primarily 20–35-year-olds in Copenhagen who are aware of sustainability but do not act on it.
AFW CPH works in a gender-transformative way and promotes inclusion, diversity, and critical awareness of fast fashion, inequality, and greenwashing. Through creative and experience-based activities, participants are moved from curiosity to active action, including through:
- Talks;
- Upcycling;
- Design communities;
- Meetings with designers from both Denmark and Uganda, who contribute nuanced knowledge about textile waste and global consequences.
The project is strengthened by partnerships, volunteerism, and co-creative activities.
