Summary of Action
The project, A Shared Future in Play – Youth as Builders of a Sustainable World, addresses global challenges related to climate change, gender inequality, and education by empowering youth to become active contributors to a sustainable future. It focuses on vocational students in education and guidance, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to address critical global issues and integrate sustainability into their future work with children.
Using simulation pedagogy, specifically a role-playing game, the project fosters critical thinking and engagement with sustainable development goals.
Key outcomes of the project include improved understanding of SDGs, particularly Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals); enhanced capacity among students to engage with global challenges and promote sustainability in their communities; and the creation of high-quality, reusable educational materials that foster long-term learning and impact.
Activities include an introductory lecture, a role-playing game, and reflective workshops, all integrated into existing curricula at partner institutions. The role-playing game is co-designed with students and teachers. The materials produced will be freely available online and promoted to other institutions to encourage widespread adoption.
The project also integrates real-life perspectives from Nepal and Ethiopia, brought through collaboration with Interpedia’s local partner organizations, further enriching the learning experience by highlighting the global interconnections between local and global challenges. Through this approach, students will develop the capacity to contribute to a fairer, more sustainable world.
