Summary of Action
The project “Another Kind of Leadership – Youth as Innovators in the Labor Market” addresses the complex challenges young people face in working life, including unemployment, precarious employment, discrimination, and inequality. These issues are explored in both Finland and Kenya, highlighting different but interconnected realities.
In Finland, young people often face uncertainty, temporary contracts, and high workloads. In Kenya, challenges include corruption, unfair labour practices, and limited social protection. By connecting these contexts, the project fosters a deeper understanding of global labour market inequalities.
The initiative focuses particularly on young people from immigrant, refugee, and minority backgrounds, aiming to strengthen their inclusion, critical thinking, and ability to participate actively in society. Through workshops, seminars, and social media engagement, participants explore themes such as discrimination, equality, and workplace well-being.
Participants play an active role in shaping the project by selecting discussion topics and inviting expert speakers. They also create and share content that raises awareness among a wider audience, reaching approximately 5,000 young people.
The project includes international components such as participation in a leadership seminar at Strathmore University in Kenya and a volunteer work camp in Turkana. These experiences strengthen intercultural dialogue and build long-term partnerships.
By combining practical experience with critical reflection, the project empowers young people to become responsible leaders and changemakers, contributing to more inclusive and sustainable labour markets.
