Summary of Action

The “Handprint – Youth as Changemakers” project responds to growing concerns among young people about climate change and marginalisation, as highlighted by the Youth Barometer (2023). It focuses on strengthening active citizenship among secondary school students in Finland, while also supporting teachers in addressing global challenges in the classroom.

The project centres on three key themes linked to the Sustainable Development Goals: poverty, gender equality, and climate action. Through a combination of workshops, school visits, and educational material development, it equips both students and educators with the knowledge and tools to engage critically with these topics.

Students will actively contribute to the creation of learning materials, while teachers and school visitors will benefit from structured resources and training. In total, 30 school visits will be conducted, complemented by a dissemination campaign including social media content, blog posts, and a webinar.

A strong global dimension is embedded in the project through the involvement of Kenyan, Roma, and Sámi youth. Their perspectives and lived experiences—particularly on climate resilience and gender equality—will enrich the learning process and foster intercultural understanding.

The project aims to move participants along the engagement pyramid, increasing their sense of responsibility and capacity for action. By reaching 700 young people and 32 teachers directly, it creates a ripple effect, as educators and school visitors continue to act as multipliers beyond the project’s duration.
