Summary of Action

The ”Bites of Change” project addresses global challenges of building a more sustainable food system, with focus on raising awareness among Finnish youth about its global dimensions. Many young people lack understanding of where food comes from, how it is produced, and global impact of their choices.

The project aims to deepen their knowledge of the interconnectedness between local and global food systems, highlighting sustainability, climate change, and global food security. The long-term goal is to equip Finnish youth with critical knowledge and tools needed to actively contribute to a sustainable food future.

By fostering awareness and encouraging behavior change, the project seeks to inspire greater participation in global sustainability efforts, targeting SDG 1 (poverty eradication), SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDGs 5 and 16 (gender equality, peace), all of which require shifts in food systems.

The desired outcomes include increased awareness of environmental, social, and economic aspects of global food systems, along with enhanced engagement in food sustainability discussions. The project aims to inspire lasting behavioral changes in attitudes towards food production, consumption, and waste.

To achieve these outcomes, the project produces educational materials, interactive digital tools (games, videos), and workshops for teachers and youth leaders to encourage critical thinking and participation. By leveraging the expertise and networks of Food and Forest Development Finland – FFD and Rural Women’s Advisory Organization, the project ensures effective outreach and resource dissemination. By using cost-effective and scalable digital tools, the one-year project can ensure broad reach and sustainable impact.
