Summary of Action
The Tulevaisuuden taitajat (Future makers) -project strengthens the role of globalized perspectives in sustainability education within vocational education in Finland. The project consists of two parts; participatory material production and teacher training. Youth from Finland and Somalia participate in the production of educational material alongside vocational education teachers. The participatory material production simultaneously acts as a sustainability learning process for the youth participants. The process consists of workshops and themes range from sustainable lifestyles to intercultural communication. Teachers are trained within the project to utilize the education material and on sustainability topics to strengthen their professionalism.
As a whole, the project aims to support the participants’ role as actors for a globally sustainable future. The concrete objective for the duration of the project is to reach 30 teachers and 250 students with the material. However, since the material is essentially created for the teachers to use in their daily work in the future, and it can be used both for in-class teaching and as online course material, up to 3000 students can be reached per year. It is also designed to be topical for several years to come.
As a part of the process of creating the material and when using the material with students in the future, the objective is to help the youth and the adults alike to climb the steps of the commitment pyramid.
