Summary of Action

UNMUTED is a project designed to strengthen civic participation among underrepresented young adults in Finland, with a particular focus on Arabic-speaking diaspora communities and other marginalized groups. It aims to lower barriers to participation and empower young people to engage actively in democratic processes.

Over the course of one year, 24 participants take part in a structured programme that combines learning and action. The project begins with orientation, group-building, and sessions on how decision-making and advocacy work at different levels in Finland. Participants then deepen their knowledge through workshops focused on advocacy skills and strategic planning.

A key element of the project is its trilingual approach, operating in Finnish, Arabic, and English to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. Participation is free of charge, travel costs for in-person sessions are covered, and many activities are held online to reduce practical barriers.

As the project progresses, participants move from theory to practice by designing and implementing their own advocacy actions, supported by the project partners. This hands-on experience strengthens their confidence, skills, and ability to influence issues that matter to them and their communities.

By the end of the project, participants are equipped to act as multipliers, sharing their knowledge and experiences within their networks. The materials and documentation developed throughout the project remain available for future use, ensuring that the impact of UNMUTED continues to grow over time.
