Summary of Action

This project aims to advance sustainable development, equality, and peace by equipping youth with the knowledge, skills, and desire to advance these issues and helping them become active agents of change in their communities.

This is done by strengthening the level and quality of global citizenship education (GCE) in the work of YMCAs in Finland and increasing youth participation in the development of our GCE activities. With local GCE youth groups, we will bring the participating youth together to help us to further develop suitable and engaging formats for youth-lead GCE volunteer groups.

By gathering materials created for GCE in different local YMCA associations and through further developing them and bringing all materials to an easily accessible platform and format, we will be able to provide a low threshold way for staff at YMCA’s and youth workers more broadly to engage in GCE and make it an integral part of their work. This will enable more youth to be given the skills and opportunity to engage in solving the global challenges they want to work on.

In addition, this process allows us the opportunity to engage with a wide range of professionals who have integrated GCE into their work and through interviews learn what makes GCE successful in various forms of youth work. Based on this data, we will conduct an analysis that will help the youth work field more broadly to comprehend the intricacies of GCE in the context of grassroots level youth work.
