Summary of Action

According to the One Health approach, human, animal, and environmental health are inextricably linked and affect each other. For this reason, caring for the health of ecosystems means monitoring the impact they have on the wellbeing of humanity. The project intends to involve the citizens of the Rivoli-Avigliana morainic amphitheatre and the Erro valley areas in becoming active participants in monitoring the health of the environment and in the fight against climate change, through Citizen Science actions.

A science of and for citizens, built on the proactive participation of volunteers who, together with scientists, become knowledge builders. Community science (CS) can strengthen local communities, providing them with activation tools, advocacy, and skills to activate actions in defence of territory and rights. Volunteer groups of citizens will be trained (according to a Distributed Intelligence logic) on analysis and data collection protocols and equipped to go into the field, to representative watercourses of the two hydro-ecoregions, and monitor macroinvertebrates, natural indicators of river health.

Community data collection events, walks, and outings will also be organised to highlight local environmental resources, during which, with the support of experts, participants will be guided in the collection of data on local flora and fauna that will then be uploaded to international community databases. Awareness-raising activities open to all citizens and constant online storytelling will ensure that the progress of the action is disseminate,d and dissemination content is produced to bring people closer to the issue.
