Summary of Action

“How to Live Longer by the Seaside?” explores how community, relationships, and mutual support contribute to long-term well-being and quality of life in coastal areas. The project focuses on the Engure–Mērsrags region, linking local experiences with broader global challenges.

Through a series of three discussion evenings, residents come together with storytellers connected to regions in Africa, Asia, and South America. These conversations explore themes such as health, social participation, resilience, and the relationship between people and nature, helping participants understand how global issues are reflected in their own lives.

The dialogue-based approach encourages participants to move beyond listening to actively sharing ideas and developing their own initiatives. Special attention is given to engaging groups that are often less involved, including men aged 40 to 75.

A community event, “Meeting in the Garden,” provides a space for informal exchange, strengthening social ties and encouraging practical sharing of knowledge and experiences. The project concludes with a final forum where participants present ideas and initiatives that have emerged during the process.

By connecting global perspectives with local realities, the project promotes a deeper understanding of sustainability and well-being, supporting communities in building stronger, more resilient and connected ways of living.
