Summary of Action
This project strengthens civic participation and community engagement in Rēzekne by connecting global challenges with local urban development. It focuses on empowering residents—especially young people and underrepresented groups—to better understand how global issues influence their daily lives and how they can contribute to local solutions.
At the core of the project are four thematic community hackathons, each addressing a key global issue through a local lens: sustainable mobility, social cohesion and well-being, climate change and green urban spaces, and inclusive culture and leisure. These events combine global education with practical, participatory workshops.
Participants work together in diverse groups to identify challenges in their city, develop concrete solutions, and create implementation plans. These ideas are designed to be actionable, including proposals that can feed into participatory budgeting processes and dialogue with local authorities.
The project concludes with a public event where participants present their ideas to the wider community, civil society organisations, and municipal representatives. This creates a space for dialogue, collaboration, and commitment to follow-up actions.
All outcomes will be compiled into an open-access idea catalogue, ensuring that the results can be reused and further developed. By guiding participants from awareness to co-creation, the project builds long-term civic capacity and supports inclusive, community-driven urban development rooted in global responsibility.
