Summary of Action
“Young men often face high levels of stress, emotional isolation, and social pressure, while lacking safe spaces to talk openly about their wellbeing. “Walking Towards the Future” addresses this challenge by creating supportive environments where young men can reflect, connect, and build resilience together.
The project focuses on improving both mental and physical wellbeing, particularly among young men, including members of the Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia. It provides practical tools, peer support, and opportunities for meaningful exchange, helping participants feel more confident discussing health and social issues.
The core activities are three guided hikes, each centered on a specific theme. The mental health hike creates space for open conversations and sharing, supported by expert insights on coping strategies. The physical health hike combines movement with discussions on wellbeing and teamwork. The third hike explores masculinity and social roles, encouraging reflection on how societal expectations shape behaviour and communication.
Through these experiences, participants strengthen their resilience, improve communication skills, and become more willing to support one another. The informal, nature-based setting makes it easier to engage in open dialogue and build trust.
To extend the project’s impact, key insights and methods will be compiled into a digital toolkit in Latvian and Ukrainian. This resource will enable youth organisations to replicate similar activities, ensuring that the approach continues to benefit young people beyond the project itself.
