General information

Project name: Youth Boost Smiltene – Empowering Local Youth for Global Responsibility
Country: Latvia
Timeline: From 1 March 2026 to 31 October 2026
Lead Organisation: Biedrība “Zadiņi”

Summary of Action

“Youth Boost Smiltene” empowers young people in a small-town context to better understand global challenges and translate this understanding into meaningful local action. The project focuses on youth aged 13 to 18, supporting those who are less engaged in civic participation.

Participants explore topics that directly affect their lives, such as mental health, social inequalities, digital relationships, and the impact of artificial intelligence. By connecting these issues to global developments, the project helps young people see how their local reality is shaped by wider global processes.

The project combines non-formal education methods with practical experience. Activities include expert-led discussions, a collaborative youth hackathon, and an educational visit to youth organisations in Finland, offering new perspectives and inspiration.

A key component is the development and implementation of youth-led initiatives. Participants are supported in turning their ideas into concrete actions within their community, strengthening their sense of agency and responsibility.

By integrating perspectives from the Global South, the project broadens participants’ worldviews and challenges assumptions. Through this process, young people become more confident, informed, and engaged, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable society both locally and globally.
