Summary of Action
Problem: Trans people in Lithuania face systemic discrimination and social exclusion, with issues often oversimplified in public discourse. While Lithuanian youth express support for equality, they lack practical understanding of trans experiences and intersectionality (e.g., how transphobia combines with racism or classism), remaining passive allies rather than active contributors to an inclusive society.
Objective: To transform Lithuanian youth from passive observers into informed, active allies who challenge gender norms and advocate for trans rights, and to empower trans youth to share their experiences and advocate for their rights.
Key Activities:
- A preparatory study visit to France for knowledge exchange on intersectional trans rights and community work with a partner organization working with LGBTQ+ rights and youth.
- An awareness campaign and a series of three educational events (workshops/lectures) for youth on intersectionality and trans rights.
- Impact measurement and dissemination of final results.
Expected Results:
Quantitatively: One study visit to France; over 45 direct participants in events in Lithuania; at least 5 social media posts for the information campaign; over 10,000 social media reaches; one finalized campaign strategy and project report.
Qualitatively: Enhanced critical understanding of intersectionality among youth in Lithuania; strengthened capacities of the implementing organization; and a measurable shift in youth engagement from passive support to informed, active citizenship.
The project will foster international cooperation between Lithuanian and French civil society and demonstrate that advocating for trans rights is a shared societal responsibility.
