Safe House in Vilnius

General information

Project name: Safe House in Vilnius
Country: Lithuania
Timeline: From 3 February 2025 to 1 January 2026
Lead Organisation: Sienos Grupė VšĮ

Summary of Action

Sienos Grupė, a Lithuanian NGO which started as humanitarian grassroots initiative supporting migrating people, is dedicated to migrating people’s social inclusion in Lithuania. With the help of The Connect for Global Change grant, it would support its mission of community building through cultural engagement in Vilnius.

The grant will enable Sienos Grupė to address a significant issue: the lack of accessible, inclusive spaces for dialogue and cultural exchange among Vilnius residents, especially for marginalized and vulnerable communities, such as non-European refugees and asylum seekers and locals.

The primary goal of the project is to foster social cohesion and understanding by creating opportunities for diverse groups to connect, share stories, and celebrate cultural diversity in a safe, welcoming environment. This initiative aims to reduce social isolation and bridge cultural divides within the city, supporting a more inclusive community landscape.

Expected outcomes of the project include stronger community ties, increased awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, and improved social support networks among participants. The project also seeks to empower marginalized groups by providing them a platform to share their experiences and engage with the broader community.

Planned activities include regular community-building events at Sienos Grupė’s cultural space in Vilnius. These events will consist of workshops, storytelling sessions, film screenings, lectures, cultural celebrations, all designed to encourage interaction, mutual respect, and understanding. By hosting these inclusive events, Sienos Grupė hopes to create a lasting impact on the social fabric of Vilnius, promoting inclusivity and cultural exchange as core values for the city’s future.
