Summary of Action

The Białowieża Forest, over the centuries, has become one of the most important natural sites, and through its location, history, changing borders, wars, and conflicts, it has become a symbol. The Białowieża Forest reflects most of the world’s problems on a micro scale. Using its example, we can observe what we face both locally and globally. Focusing on border areas, we can address many current social and political problems and reflect on them together.

As part of our project entitled “Together at the Border – The Complexity of the Polish-Belarusian Border Situation in the Białowieża Forest Region – History and Present Day,” we will organize a series of events and raise issues of culture, nature protection during war, and the difficulty of living on the border. Through the political decisions of the European Union and Poland, this land has become a political backyard where European governments do their business.

We will also look at the situation from a global perspective: the climate crisis, the humanitarian crisis, and migrations of people, plants, and animals. We will do this in cooperation with local initiatives and the Belarusian minority.

Events include:
– A discussion about borders
– A lecture on nature conservation during wars
– A meeting with humanitarian organizations
– Meetings on the identity of the Podlasie region—language and origin
– A dance performance by the School in Hajnówka
– Forest walks with guides

From the conversations and discussions, which we will record, we will create a series of podcasts to make the content available to a wider audience.
