Traveling Ethically: How to Talk About the World Fairly?
General information
Project name: Etycznie o podróżach. Jak sprawiedliwie opowiadać o świecie?
Country: Poland
Timeline: From 1 March 2025 to 30 November 2025
Lead Organisation: Fundacja Go’n’Act
Summary of Action
The project contributed to increasing the knowledge and awareness of the target group regarding ethical tourism narratives.
The project’s target audiences – tourists, travel festival organizers, and travel agency staff – were equipped with tools to help them identify stereotypes, simplifications, and colonial narratives in travel stories and marketing offers. Project activities strengthened attitudes of empathy, respect, and responsibility toward communities from the Global South in diverse ways, including through eight in-depth educational posts, a publication, two webinars, and participation in travel festivals on five occasions.
The project engaged people who had previously been less involved in issues related to global challenges, in particular travel agency employees, encouraging them to reflect on their own role in shaping narratives about the world. As a result, participants were inspired to adopt more conscious, fair, and sustainable communication practices aligned with the values of equality, solidarity, and shared responsibility, in line with the objectives of the grant program.
The goals were:
1) promote critical reflection on travel narratives,
2) encourage change among travellers, guides, and event organizers who often perpetuate harmful stereotypes, and
3) provide clear, lasting guidance on how to speak ethically about visited countries, with input from self-advocates and experts from the Global South.
