Summary of Action
“From Playground to Community” focuses on empowering young Roma women who face multiple and overlapping challenges, including discrimination, limited access to education, and social exclusion. The project creates a safe and supportive environment where participants can build confidence, skills, and a stronger sense of agency.
Football serves as an accessible and inclusive entry point. Through sport, participants connect with one another, build trust, and engage in a positive group dynamic. This foundation is complemented by non-formal education workshops covering topics such as gender equality, human rights, health, and global inequalities.
The project takes a careful and ethical approach, recognising the sensitive position of young Roma women within their communities. Participation is designed to be safe and voluntary, without pressure to engage in public exposure. Instead, learning is supported through reflection, personal development, and group interaction.
To share experiences more broadly, the project includes an anonymous storytelling campaign, allowing participants’ voices to be heard while protecting their privacy. Collaboration with local football clubs, civil society organisations, and institutions—including cooperation with UEFA—helps to challenge stereotypes and foster dialogue.
The project concludes with a national event and a multicultural football tournament, bringing together participants and stakeholders. Based on the pilot experience, practical guidelines will be developed to support replication in other contexts, contributing to long-term impact and broader social change.
