Global Voices of Theatre of the Oppressed

Summary of Action

“Global Voices of Theatre of the Oppressed” introduces students and educators in Slovenia to a powerful form of critical pedagogy rooted in the Global South. The project focuses on raising awareness of global inequalities and exploring how education can support social change.

At the centre of the project is the methodology of the Theatre of the Oppressed, which combines theory and practice to help participants understand and challenge systems of inequality. Through interactive and non-hierarchical group work, participants explore real-life situations and experiment with possible solutions using role play and physical expression.

A key element of the project is the collaboration with Jana Sanskriti, the world’s largest Theatre of the Oppressed organisation. For the first time, they will bring their decades of experience to Slovenia, offering students direct insight into practices developed in the Global South.

The project engages around 120 pedagogy students and also involves trainers and future facilitators, including individuals with migrant backgrounds, who are supported to become multipliers of this approach. Through this process, knowledge and methods are shared more widely within educational and community contexts.

In addition to in-person activities, the project includes digital outreach, such as virtual conversations and social media content, reaching a broader audience. These activities highlight different practices of the Theatre of the Oppressed and encourage reflection on global challenges.

By combining education, creativity, and dialogue, the project empowers participants to better understand systemic inequalities and to actively engage in building more just and inclusive communities.
