Summary of Action
“Telling Stories, Reclaiming Peace” connects young people and women from Slovenia and Syria through storytelling, dialogue, and creative expression. The project focuses on peacebuilding, challenging simplified narratives about conflict, and bringing forward voices that are often overlooked—especially those of women and youth.
Participants take part in a multi-stage process that begins with story-making workshops. Here, they collect and shape personal and community experiences related to conflict, resilience, and peace. These stories are then shared across borders, creating a meaningful exchange that builds empathy and mutual understanding.
Through collaboration, selected stories are transformed into short, anonymised films. These films reflect diverse perspectives—from memories of the Ten-Day War in Slovenia to lived experiences of conflict and recovery in Syria—highlighting both differences and shared human experiences.
The films are presented during local screenings and online events, reaching thousands of people. Each screening is followed by facilitated discussions that encourage critical reflection on peace, gender roles, environmental challenges, and community resilience.
By guiding participants from storytelling to public engagement, the project strengthens their role as active contributors to dialogue and change. It builds connections between communities, fosters solidarity, and supports a more nuanced understanding of global challenges and peacebuilding processes.
