Genderation Connect
General information
Project name: Genderation Connect
Country: The Netherlands
Timeline: From 15 February 2026 to 31 January 2027
Lead Organisation: Empowering Girls Gambia
Summary of Action
People with a migration background in the Netherlands and rural youth in Gambia face barriers related to gender inequality, sexual and reproductive health, and social inclusion. Cultural taboos, trauma, and limited access to reliable information often prevent open and respectful dialogue about consent, relationships, and reproductive rights.
The project GENDERation Connect, aims to empower youth to understand and address interconnected global challenges, using the Development Goals (3, 5, and 10) as a framework. The project promotes global citizenship and constructive youth-led action for equality and inclusion.
In the Netherlands, the project focuses on young people with a migration or refugee background, working in close collaboration with youth organizations that host and support them upon arrival. By engaging girls and boys in a safe learning environment, the project enables discussions about cultural norms and values surrounding gender and reproductive health, fostering mutual respect and understanding. In Gambia, the project involves rural youth to promote empowerment and behavioural change.
Through co-creation, workshops, and the GENDERation Connect card game, the project ensures meaningful engagement, North–South collaboration , and a gender-transformative, intersectional approach. Robust monitoring measures increased knowledge, confidence, and inclusive attitudes, empowering youth as peer educators and changemakers who promote equality and cross-cultural understanding.
