Global Citizenship in Action – The Eurasian Brave Space Forum
General Information
Project name: Wereldburgerschap in Actie – The Eurasian Brave Space Forum
Country: Netherlands
Timeline: From 1 March 2026 to 15 January 2027
Lead Organisation: Stichting Intercultureel Contact in Onderwijs (ICO)
Summary of Action
This project addresses a key gap in global citizenship education: while European programmes have fostered intra-European exchange, structured dialogue with Asia is limited. Given the growing influence of India and China, young Europeans need opportunities to build sustainable connections with peers across continents. Without this, many students remain insufficiently aware of global interdependencies, inequalities, and shifting power relations.
The project seeks to empower young people from the Netherlands, Belgium, India, and China through the creation of a Brave Space for intercultural dialogue. After digital exchanges, a three-day forum in the Netherlands will enable participants to address sensitive issues such as climate justice, privilege, technology, and inequality. The aim is to strengthen intercultural competence, encourage critical reflection, and foster empathy and collaboration.
Expected results include the participation of 120 young people in online exchanges and 40 in the Brave Space Forum. The project will generate measurable growth in intercultural awareness, communication skills, and reflection on global challenges. Moreover, the Brave Space methodology will be structurally embedded in partner schools, while open access materials will ensure wider dissemination and sustainability.
