Off Trend: Youth in Action for Fair Fashion
General information
Project name: Off Trend: Youth in Action for Fair Fashion
Country: The Netherlands
Timeline: From 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2027
Lead Organisation: Stichting het Groene Brein
Summary of Action
Across the world, young people wear clothes produced in exploitative conditions, with little awareness of the environmental and social cost. The global fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to climate change, gender inequality, and waste, and fast fashion reinforces a culture of overconsumption. At the same time, youth feel disconnected from the supply chains and decisions that shape their future.
This project aims to empower youth in the Netherlands and the Global South to become change agents for a fairer fashion system. Through a creative and hands-on programme, participants will explore the hidden side of the fashion industry, learn practical skills such as upcycling and storytelling, and co-create a collection that reflects their values.
Activities include workshops on design and repair, storytelling labs, and knowledge exchanges with grassroots makers in the Global South. The programme will culminate in public exhibitions and community events.
The expected outcomes are increased awareness among youth, strengthened cross-cultural dialogue, and the development of a prototype “Learning Lab” that can be replicated in other contexts. By connecting education, community engagement, and sustainable fashion, we foster youth leadership in the fight for climate justice and human dignity.
