Solidarity in Action
General information
Project name: Solidarity in Action
Country: The Netherlands
Timeline: From 1 February 2025 to 31 March 2026
Lead Organisation: Sister Schools Foundation (MoMo)
Summary of Action
Global challenges such as wealth inequality, lack of proper education, absence of clean water, and continuous gender inequality continue to be evident. In addition, a significant rise in “fake news”, anonymous identities, and artificial intelligence contributes to increased polarisation and a lack of mutual understanding.
The purpose of the action is to increase the level of engagement on these topics among the younger generation by providing global citizenship education, live interaction and connections between Kenyan and Dutch students on a personal level during a work week at school. The work-week materials are developed for 3 different age groups: 13-15, 16-18 and 18+.
The project’s activities are taking place in the period May-December 2025, targeted at a Dutch audience with the intention to offer it to other European countries in the future. Students collaborate on ideas, solving local challenges, connected to 4 SDGs and prepare a presentation to pitch their ‘call to action’. An official jury chooses a maximum of 5 winning action-ideas that receive a financial reward and will be executed before the end of 2025. The execution is being supported and coordinated by the MoMo Youth Movement, consisting of volunteers.
Two online and two offline events showcase the projects, raise awareness about the issues and are supported by a marketing campaign leading to at least 5 Dutch new schools signing up for a project week in autumn.
The direct beneficiaries of the project are 450 Dutch students; indirectly, the project reaches 3500 people with a total budget of 25,000 euros.
