The Final Act of Love
General information
Project name: The Final Act of Love
Country: The Netherlands
Timeline: From 30 April 2026 to 30 April 2027
Lead Organisation: New Dutch Connections
Summary of Action
The Final Act of Love brings climate activism in the Global South to life through the story of Ken Saro Wiwa and his community, the Ogoni. The performance and public campaign connect migration, the environment, and climate through the voices and dreams of Ogoni youth and Dutch youth. The Ogoni are afflicted by poverty, exclusion, and violence due to years of oppression and environmental destruction. The campaign gives them a platform to make their pain, hope, and dreams for the future visible.
The project utilizes multiple media: a theatrical performance, short online videos in which young people talk about their dreams for the future, portrait photos, and a digital public campaign via social media. Through these media and Q&As with Ogoni from the refugee camp, the audience is directly connected to the situation on the ground. All of this raises critical awareness and stimulates meaningful engagement, especially among young people.
The action contributes to raising awareness regarding climate issues linked to migration and environmental injustice. It emphasizes gender equality and intersectionality by including diverse voices. Ultimately, the project aims to create a movement that brings about sustainable change and offers visibility and support to the Ogoni community.
