Two Worlds, One Story

General information

Project name: Two Worlds, One Story
Country: The Netherlands
Timeline: From 1 March 2026 to 31 December 2026
Lead Organisation: Stichting Capa Capa
Co-applicant: Stichting Netwerk Samen voor Goud

Summary of Action

Two Worlds, One Story connects young people from the Netherlands and Malawi through photography and storytelling to challenge stereotypes and foster global citizenship. Many Dutch youth view Africa mainly through images of poverty, while Malawian youth assume that life in the Netherlands is easy and wealthy. At the same time, both groups struggle with similar issues: (online) bullying and social pressure.

Through creative workshops, each participant creates a personal photograph about their experiences with boundary-crossing-behavior. They exchange these images digitally, reflect on each other’s stories, and create a second “response image” for their peer in the other country. This visual dialogue encourages a deeper understanding of shared challenges.

The project pays explicit attention to gender and intersectionality, it ensuring a safe environment to discuss issues such as body shaming, online intimidation and unequal power dynamics.

The resulting photos and short video stories are presented in exhibitions in both countries, followed by public conversations. In the Netherlands, the artwork travels until December 2026 as a mobile exposition across schools, youth centres and cultural institutions.

By learning with and not merely about each other, young people become active and responsible world citizens who contribute to respectful online and offline communities.
