Young & Fair: Hoe fair ben jij?
General information
Project name: Young & Fair: Hoe fair ben jij?
Country: The Netherlands
Timeline: From 1 January 2025 to 1 January 2026
Lead Organisation: Stichting Fairtrade Gemeente Nederland
Summary of Action
The clothing industry has an immense, often negative, impact on people and the environment. A large part of the clothing is made under poor working conditions by young girls in developing countries. The use of chemical dyes has a negative impact on the environment in the production countries. At the end of the chain, a lot of clothing is dumped in developing countries and pollutes the environment there.
Many producers, farmers and workers in Africa, Asia and Latin America of food products are underpaid. We create awareness and critical understanding among young people about how the various chains work, and for example, quality marks, so that they can make a choice that has a positive impact on the farmers and producers.
By giving at least 100 guest lectures about Fair Food and Fair Fashion at primary and secondary education, higher professional education and/or universities, we interest and activate 2,500 young people in the world of Fairtrade and sustainability.
Our guest lectures have an interactive approach that enables young people to empathise with the makers of the products and to gain a critical understanding of the conditions under which products are made. We encourage young people to make their own behaviour more sustainable and to organise actions themselves by bringing Fairtrade and sustainability to the attention of others, especially their peers. For example, to organise a clothing swap party at school of with friends. Or buying food products with a quality mark.
